Humans are remarkably adaptive. We can combine logical vigour with emotional sensitivity, adapting our behaviour and actions to the world around us. We can learn multiple skills and topic areas, self reflect to set our own goals, and swiftly change track when we evaluate our progress.
AI cannot yet do those things… or at least, not all together, and not from genuinely self-motivation. AI still, at its heart, a prediction machine - it simply predicts the next likely token, based on its training, over and over. For this reason, AI is called ‘Narrow AI’ or ‘weak AI’.
General AI, or Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) , which is not yet with us, would have the act more as humans do: self evaluate, set its own goals, and switch from one goal to another based on understanding of the world around it.
